MIAMI BUCKET LIST: Part 1 of an Ongoing Series
There is so much to do around South Florida and while it would be amazing to conquer everything Miami has to offer, that would be impossible to do in just a few days. As a result, we have created a Miami Bucket List of the coolest, most interesting things to do while in Miami (outside of the usual South Beach shopping, nightclub, restaurant, and bar scene). Please see below of some our favorite “must do’s” while in Miami!
1) KAYAK THROUGH OLETA STATE PARK
For at least 2,000 years, the has been a major source of food, water, and transportation for its human inhabitants ranging from the Spanish Explorers to the present day Seminole Indians. Hop into a kayak and paddle out the Oleta River and into the Biscayne Bay to really experience Miami, Florida. Check out the Mangroves and all of the hidden nooks you can find. And just in case you don’t like the water – Oleta River State Park has some of the best mountain biking trails you will find in Florida. The onsite concessionaire is absolutely awesome. has all of the gear you could use for your day in the park and also really friendly and helpful guides if you prefer not to explore alone.
2) SEE THE SUN RISE OVER SOUTH BEACH FROM ATOP THE 1111 LINCOLN ROAD PARKING GARAGE
“You have never seen a parking garage this beautiful, guaranteed.” The 1111 Lincoln Road is a parking garage with vast and open knife-edged floor plates and soaring wedge-shaped buttresses that has become an instant icon among the many emblems of South Beach. Indeed, it is special enough to host weddings, and intricately designed to showcase high-end boutique stores, the home of a developer with a vision – and yes, park your car. Its Alton Road location offers a 360 degree view of the city – the perfect sun rise experience!
3) SWIM AT VENETIAN POOL
Named after its venetian-style lagoon, the landmark that is the Venetian Pool is carved out of coral rock and features caves, stone bridges, palm trees, and waterfalls. It is the only swimming pool on the National Register of Historic Places – it is widely recognized as “the most beautiful and unique public pool in the country.” The best part of it all is its seclusion. There’s not a building in sight, and the roaring waterfalls drowns all sounds of traffic out. During the summer the pool is refilled daily from an underground aquifer and there are never any chemicals in the water. Super cool for a hot Miami afternoon!
4) SEVEN WORDS: FRESH ARGENTINE PASTRIES AT BUENOS AIRES BAKERY
has been serving authentic Argentine baked goods and award-winning empanadas since 1972. Their sandwiches de miga, pizzas, cakes, and breads have consistently won over the hearts of locals and tourists alike. Buenos Aires Bakery also carries a variety of rare and unique products like Yerba Mate, Real Sidra, Livenza, and Argentina beer and wines. There is something for everyone, no matter where you are from. Quality coffee, service, atmosphere, and did I mention free Wi-Fi?
5) TAKE A SPEEDBOAT TOUR FROM BAYSIDE MARKETPLACE
Bayside Marketplace is a festival marketplace in Downtown Miami, popularized by
the crime drama TV series, Miami Vice. As Bayside’s name suggests, it wraps along the banks of the Biscayne Bay. Enjoy speedboat rides in Miami aboard the Thriller Speedboat. The tour is 45 minutes and cruises along the Miami coastline (Biscayne Bay, Key Biscayne, Coconut Grove, and Fisher Island) at 50mph. What makes this particular tour boat so special, besides its speed and timing, is that it is the only tour to include ocean views of Miami Beach. You’ll definitely feel like Don Johnson – at least for 45 minutes.
