Why not enjoy these small but mighty, mini meals on a “tapas tour” with family and friends sampling many of the fine Spanish restaurants in South Beach.

The Bazaar by José Andrés

Guests begin their visit in the chic al fresco setting of the Bar overlooking the SLS pool and move indoors for dinner to one of two dining rooms.
NIU Kitchen

One of the things that make Miami standout is its beaches. The beaches are great for watersports and windsurfing is one of the sports that you can practice if you are looking for the ultimate outdoor experience. In this article, I highlight the best venues to get your windsurf on in South Beach Miami.

Crandon Park

Crandon Park is one of the main windsurfing locations in Miami. This watersports park is managed strictly and you will have to follow all the set rules if you want to windsurf here. Operators at the park will lay out the rules before you get to the beach and one thing they insist on is surfing only in the designated areas. If you can adhere to this restriction, then you can enjoy the waters at the beach as you surf to the easterly and southern winds.

Matheson Hammock Park

The Matheson Hammock Park is another great location in South Beach Miami for windsurfing. It is quite similar to Crandon Park only that the rules are tighter and the entry requirement stringent. Surfers have to prove that they proficient sportsmen for them to get access to the beach. Surfers also have to stay within designated surfing buoys and should you adhere to this, you will have an amazing beach line to soak up.

The waters are calmer and this makes it a great spot for freestyle training.

Key Biscayne

Key Biscayne is a short distance from Matheson Hammock Park. It is less known than Matheson Hammock Park and Crandon Park but it is still a great spot for windsurfing if you prefer calmer waters and absorbing coastlines. The beach-front features lovely palm trees that give the beach a great look. It is less busy than the windsurfing parks mentioned above and this makes it a great spot for armature and practicing surfers.

87 Street

The beach on 87 Street has deep and choppy waters that are great for windsurfing. The winds blow gently on this beach and this allows you to surf as you take in the amazing view of the waters and the coastline.

There are usually a lot of swimmers on the beach over the weekend and this could limit your surfing area.

Virginia Key North Point Park

Virginia Key is one of the oldest oceans in Miami and America at large. The beach is open daily and its calm waters make it a great venue for your windsurf activities. Several shops that offer windsurf training and facilities are found at the beach and this will come in handy if you need special training or better windsurfing equipment.

Rickenbacker Causeway Beach

Located between the barrier islands of Biscayne Bay and Virginia Key, the Rickenbacker Causeway Beach is a great spot for your windsurfing activities. Southbound winds cut through the beach to propel you as you surf on the waters. It is one of the popular outdoor destinations in South Beach Miami and you will come across people swimming, boating, sunbathing, and picnicking.

The post Where to windsurf in South Beach Miami first appeared on San Juan Hotel.

A trip to South Beach Miami will undoubtedly be an amazing experience. With beautiful white sand beaches, an endless supply of golden sunlight, and one of the world’s liveliest atmospheres, you will want to soak up every minute of it. But should you have the luxury of an extended trip in South Beach, you should use that time to arrange day trips to the many wonderful attractions that surround South Beach. To help you plan an amazing trip, we have included our suggestions for days trips below.

The Everglades

In just an hour, you can be at one of America’s most exhilarating national parks. You can journey around the Everglades’ expansive swamp on an airboat — and expect to see all forms of wildlife. This trip is not for the faint of heart because you will definitely come face to face with a few gators. The tours around the Everglades have some amazing offerings — you can cradle a baby alligator in your arms, tour the Miccosukee Indian village, and so much more.

The Florida Keys

If you love Miami’s beaches, you will love this even more. Just an hour and a half away are the Florida Keys. Here you can take private boat tours, go fishing, stop at the legendary Tiki Bar Holiday Isle, and if you are feeling adventurous, stay the night in a houseboat.

Fort Lauderdale Beach

Only 40 minutes away is an escape from Miami’s rowdy beach crowd. The beach’s strip is a family-friendly destination: with mom-and-pop ice cream shops to plenty of water activities, there is something for everyone. For those planning a visit between May and October, you can see the beach populated with turtles — a truly spectacular sight to behold.

Naples

For a serene escape, head to Naples, which is just a two-hour drive from Miami. After a few nights of Miami madness, you may be craving something calmer. In that case, Naples, which is on the west coast of Florida, is your answer. With an abundance of cute boutiques, artsy shops, and a quaint downtown vibe, it will provide a nice contrast to the hustle and bustle in Miami.

Miami is a wonderful city but is also in proximity to so many other wonderful attractions. If you have the time, make sure you check out one of these amazing destinations.

The post Seven Great Family Day Trips From South Beach first appeared on San Juan Hotel.

Need to refresh yourself on some of the surfing basics before hitting the Miami beaches? Don’t worry; whether you’re a serious surfer or have never touched a board, we’ve found the best places in and around Miami Beach to hone your skills.

South Beach Dive & Surf

South Beach Dive & Surf offers both diving instruction and surf classes in a convenient location at Miami Beach. Their private lessons are only held on request, with both individual and group sessions available. Along with the basics of how to surf, they also teach their students how to understand beach conditions, safety and a dash of history on the sport. Gear hire and purchase is also available.

SoBe Surf

Purportedly South Beach’s oldest continuously-operating surf school, SoBe pretty much taught everyone’s kids how to handle a board. They’ve been around since 2002. Their instructors are knowledgeable and professional, and cater to all skill levels from total novice to the seasoned surfer, with private classes available. Most of their students, however, tend to go for SoBe Surf’s standard classes. These classes run regularly and go for around an hour and a half. They usually start with basic ground training, where students can practice the basic technique before hitting the water.

SURF Miami Beach

This family-run business meets its students on the sand at Miami Beach, and offer custom classes for all skill levels. They do individual, family and group sessions, and have fantastic customer service.

Hirooka Surf and Sport

Hirooka Surf and Sport has classes for surfing, kiteboarding, paddle surfing, and stand-up paddle surfing. Their instructors are professional and experienced, though their gear hire seems a bit on the expensive side.

Viking Surf Camp

This surf camp style school specializes in teaching kids the basics of surfing. Their classes take place in numerous locations across Florida, offering students a good mix of conditions. For beginners, they have a six-hour superclass that’s guaranteed to have you standing up on the first day.

TKS Miami Sunset Harbor

Primarily a surf hire store, TKS also offers reasonably-priced surf and paddleboard classes. The store itself also happens to have one of Miami’s most extensive ranges of surf gear.

South Beach Surf Club

South Beach Surf Club offers a 2-hour introductory class that takes students from learning the basic technique on the sand to guiding them into their first wave. Instructor Chucky has over 10 years of experience, and classes are available in English, Spanish and Portuguese. They also offer classes on paddleboarding, kayaking, and snorkeling.

The post Where to Get Surf Lessons in Miami Beach first appeared on San Juan Hotel.

Test your mettle or enjoy the show at one of South Beach’s biggest sporting events of the year, the famed South Beach Triathlon. Or, slow down and contribute to a good cause with the AIDS Walk. More details of these events and more below!

Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo

Miami Riverday Festival

South Beach Triathlon

Not for the faint of heart (or breath), the South Beach Triathlon will have competitors run, bike and swim their way to victory in this extreme test of endurance and sheer wherewithal. The race takes place in picturesque South Beach, where you can join crowds to watch the competition. Most importantly, all proceeds from the event will be donated to charity Save the Children, so you know your money is going to a good cause. The triathlon will take place on April 14.

Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run

Celebrate this Easter with one of these great events in and around South Beach. Head to the zoo for an egg hunt, or make your way to North Shore for fun, games and more hidden Easter eggs at the Spring Eggstravaganza. Some of our other great ideas for Easter activities also include a visit to a fully-functional hobby farm and Miami Seaquarium’s annual Bunny Palooza. Oh, and in case you’re worried there’s nothing fun for adults, don’t worry; we’ve got some serious brunches on offer, too!

Egg Safari at Zoo Miami

Is there anything kids like more than the zoo? What about a zoo packed with hidden Easter eggs? This Easter, Zoo Miami will be peppered with over 100,000 chocolate eggs for kids to hunt down. There will also be an array of different games and activities to keep the kids occupied, including watching the zoo animals themselves hunt for their own treats. The Easter Bunny himself will also make an appearance. Participation in Egg Safari is included with standard entry to Zoo Miami. Find out more at the zoo’s website.

Bunny Palooza at Miami Seaquarium

If anyone missed out on finding a chocolate egg or two at the zoo, then try your luck during Miami Seaquarium’s Bunny Palooza. Along with an Easter egg hunt, the Bunny Balooza will also include bouncy houses, a foam zone, and even a parade. The event takes place over the entire Easter weekend, from Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21. More information is available at the Miami Seaquarium website.

Spring Eggstravaganza

The Little Farm Egg Hunt

More chocolate eggs and adorable animals await you and your kids at The Little Farm, a functional hobby farm just south of Cutler Bay. Their egg hunt will have multiple iterations throughout the weekend, giving kids the best opportunity to find a few eggs. Kids will also enjoy a visit to the petting farm or a pony ride.

Want something slightly out of the ordinary? From the artistic to eccentric, eclectic to pure wacky, we’ve visited some of the most cutting edge bars and lounges in and around Miami Beach. They might be a bit unusual, but all these places guarantee an experience unlike any other.

Katsuya

Located above a sushi bar, Katsuya is one of those places that’s more art gallery than bar. Chic doesn’t start to describe this Asian-themed place, though the real highlight is in the rotating exhibitions. Each month, a local artist is showcased by Katsuya, meaning there’s always something different here.

Atrio

Bars claiming to have the best views in Miami are a dime a dozen, but Atrio might really have the most jaw-dropping panorama in town. Aloof on the 25th floor of the Conrad Hotel, Atrio’s patio has commanding views of Biscayne Bay. Watch the boats come in over a cocktail or two, or head westward to the restaurant for the best sunset views.

Ball & Chain

A slice of history in the heart of Miami, Ball & Chain has somehow survived generation after generation of development and gentrification to remain as authentic as ever. Over the years, this place has seen names like Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday pass through its doors. Recently restored, the Ball & Chain ups the tropical vibe in its secret back garden.

The Wharf

Located on North River Dr, The Wharf has quickly become one of Miami’s most popular nightlife areas. This grassy area is host to an eclectic mix of food trucks, pop-ups and live entertainment. Things usually start to get good just before midnight on weekends, when the bands get going and the mojitos start flowing. It’s a great place to meet up with friends and hang out by the river.

Ted’s Hideaway

The antidote to pretentiousness, Ted’s Hideaway is a refuge for anyone and everyone who needs a break from Miami’s chronic ostentation. The beers are cheap, the music box tinny and everything permanently smells like cigarettes. It’s also probably the most welcoming, down-to-earth dive in South Beach.

Kill Your Idol

Speaking of dives, Kill Your Idol is dirt cheap fun. Every night has a unique theme, such as Monday drag night. In general there’s a strong retro vibe, so expect a lot of classic 80s rock to be playing. If you get bored, then let your eyes get lost looking over all the wacky stuff hanging from the walls.

Lagniappe

Is it your grandma’s house, or one of the best wine bars in Miami? Lagniappe certainly has a unique aesthetic that’s both quaint and charming, but don’t be deceived; this place means business. Along with boasting arguably the most impressive wine list in the state, they also do some excellent food. Plus, their jazz/bluegrass live entertainment is always fantastic.

The post Unique & Weird Bars/Lounges in Miami Beach first appeared on San Juan Hotel.

Miami Shark Tours

As the name would suggest, this place is conveniently located in Miami, but also offers tours around Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, and the Florida Keys. They specialize in cage dives and tend to do a pretty good job at picking out shark hot spots all over the Florida coastline. Another great thing about Miami Shark Tours is just how accommodating they are towards total novices; if you’ve never tried cage diving before, then Miami Shark Tours is a good pick. Check out their current prices at their official website.

Calypso Dive Charters

Calypso Dive Charters mostly deals in snorkeling and scuba trips with sharks. Their dives usually run twice a day at Riviera Beach, where clear waters make for great visibility. This is also a particularly good spot to see hammerheads. Calypso’s tours also score big points for their small group sizes, which helps keep things from seeming crowded. Groups do, however, require a minimum of four people to make a reservation. Find out more here.

South Beach Divers

Aimed squarely at serious divers, South Beach Divers has a great location and offers even better service. With a bit of a reputation around South Beach as the diving pros, these guys don’t mess around and organize expert-level custom trips. Along with sharks, they also do wreck dives. For novices, they also do regular snorkeling trips to the John Pennekamp Marine Sanctuary. Head over to their website for more information.

Florida Shark Diving

Unlike the previous options, Florida Shark Diving is based a little way out from Miami. Located in Jupiter, they offer tours in various locations throughout Florida. While they have a number of good package offers, they also do custom trips and are quite flexible in terms of diver needs. For anyone who isn’t eager to jump in the water with a man-eater, then consider taking advantage of one of Florida Shark Diving’s shark viewing tours. Find out more here.

Sea Dreams Scuba

Proprietor Tim and his team go above and beyond in terms of customer service, and it shows; their Yelp page is overflowing with divers delighted by their attention to detail. They offer a range of diving options, along with classes for beginners and experts alike. See their current offerings over at their website.

Shark Addicts

True to their name, the team at Shark Addicts really do seem hooked on sharks. Part preservation activists, part divers, Shark Addicts is all about respecting the animals you’re about to jump in the water with. Their four-hour snorkeling trips are some of the best in Florida though and bring you nose-to-nose with the sharks. Unlike others on this list though, Shark Addicts are a little cagey about you bringing along your own video camera /Go-Pro. They do, however, offer their own filming services.
No visit to Miami would be complete without a trip to Little Havana. This slice of Cuba in the heart of Miami is a great place to enjoy Caribbean culture, not to mention a mojito or two. Read on to see our tips for unmissable spots around Little Havana.

What to do in Little Havana

Puff some puros at El Credito Cigar Factory

As you might suspect, Little Havana has more than its fair share of cigar stores, each with their own unique character. While it’s hard to say which is best, everybody knows the oldest. El Credito is actually the oldest continuously-operating cigar factory anywhere in the United States and runs tours daily Monday through Friday. These tours are very much worthwhile and give you the opportunity to see cigars being hand-rolled by their experts. Afterward, sink into one of their lounge chairs and taste the flavors of Cuba with a cigar or two from the collection. El Credito is located at 1100 SW 8th Street.

Cool off at the Azucar Ice Cream Company

An icon of Little Havana, Azucar Ice Cream certainly doesn’t hold back on the sugary goodness. Located at 1503 Calle Ocho, this little place seems to feed half of Little Havana during summer. Don’t miss the mantecado, a classic Cuban flavor that combines cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla.

Play dominoes in Maximo Gomez Park

What could be more relaxing than a game of dominoes? The answer: pretty much anything, assuming we’re talking about the high tension tournaments that go down in Little Havana’s Maximo Gomez Park. Known to locals simply as “Domino Park”, this leafy corner of Little Havana is always a hub of activity and the place to see and be seen for Cuban retirees with serious domino skills. Sit back and watch a game or two, or try your hand and be prepared to lose hard to the pros.

Dance at Casa Panza’s Flamenco Nights

Right in the heart of Little Havana, Casa Panza’s Flamenco Nights are easily among the highlights of a visit to Miami. Every Tuesday and Thursday from 8.30pm, the guitars start strumming and the mojitos flow. Casa Panza is on Calle Ocho at 16th Avenue.

Location and how to get there

Little Havana is centered around SW 8th Street, which locals often refer to as “Calle Ocho”. Basically, everything along here between 12th and 17th Avenues is Little Havana, more or less. If you’re taking a private vehicle, then you’ll be glad to know Calle Ocho is lined with parking meters, and it’s somewhat easier to find a park here than in central Miami (just be sure to stock up on quarters).

If you’re relying on public transport, you likewise won’t have too many problems. From South Beach, take a southbound C-line from Washington Avenue to the Downtown Bus Terminal. From there, you can take the #207 to 15th Avenue. Then, just walk south towards Calle Ocho, and you’ll be right in the middle of the action within minutes. Alternatively, from central Miami, the #6 goes straight up Calle Ocho.

The post A quick guide to Little Havana first appeared on San Juan Hotel.

If it’s March in Miami, then Carnaval is on its way! This celebration of Latino culture is a highlight of the year for many Miamians, and is a great opportunity to let loose. Meanwhile, the Miami Film Festival is kicking off, while the Miami Open is just around the corner. Read on to see our top events around South Beach in March.

Winter Party Festival

An estimated 10,000 visitors from across the country and the globe will be pouring into Miami this March for a week of partying and live entertainment at this year’s Winter Party Festival. Events related to the festival will be taking place across Miami from February 27 to March 5. Entry prices vary depending on events, and all details are available here.

Miami Film Festival

It’s a great way to learn a little about the history under your feet, though entry prices vary depending on the venue. Find out more here.

More information can be found here.

Carnaval Miami

Starting on March 2 and running through to the 10th, Carnaval is less of an event in and of itself, and more of a collection of related festivals in and around Little Havana. The first two events, Carnaval on the Mile and the Cork & Fork food festival, both kick off on March 2-3. Carnaval concludes with the iconic, and wildly popular Calle Ocho Music Festival on March 10. Get all the details here.

Miami Sailing Week

In one of Miami’s largest sporting events of the year, Miami Sailing Week will bring talent from across the world to Florida from March 4-10. More than 200 sailors will be participating this year, not to mention the thousands of visitors who crowd the coastline to see competitors outsmart, outmaneuver and out-sail their rivals. Line the coast of Biscayne Bay with onlookers, or take a boat out to see the action from the water. Either way, find more details here.

Miami Open

Check out one of the world’s largest tennis tournaments from March 18 to 31. Early round tickets can be as low as $20, though expect to pay at least $275 to reserve seats during the semi-finals and finals.
South Beach doesn’t have to be intimidating! Even if you’ve only got a weekend up your sleeve, you’ll have no trouble seeing and experiencing the best of what South Beach has to offer with our two-day guide.

Day 1: explore South Beach from end to end
South Beach is fairly easy to explore for the most part on foot, with beautiful beach views and pleasant culture. Start your adventure at the northern end of the Miami Beach Boardwalk, and head south along the beachfront to Collins Park. This first stretch will take you along some of Miami’s most picturesque beaches, lined by upmarket resorts and bars.

Your first stop is The Bass, a historic art deco masterpiece that houses an eclectic mix of art exhibitions in Collins Park. Afterward, continue heading southbound to Soundscape Park, where the northern end of Lincoln Road Mall starts. This is the beating heart of Miami Beach, where you’ll find boutique fashion and a lively atmosphere. As you continue to head south, make sure to take a quick detour to Espanola Way for historic architecture. If you’re coming on a Sunday, don’t let yourself miss the morning farmers’ market. Also, don’t miss the nearby World Erotic Art Museum. Obviously not child-friendly, this museum is unarguably one of South Beach’s most memorable experiences.

Next, you’ll want to head towards Lummus Park and the Art Deco Historic District. On the way, sweet teeth should pay a visit to the Sugar Factory to stock up on novelty sweets. Meanwhile, the Art Deco district itself is another great area for people watching, or for lunch in one of the many al fresco restaurants that line the street. You might also want to continue your walk from the beachfront side of Lummus Park, and soak up the sun and stunning views. From here, the general idea is to continue walking down to South Pointe to finish the day on the beach. However, history buffs should make sure to stop by the Jewish Museum of Florida while en route. On your way, try to take note of the location of Mango’s Tropical Cafe, which you’ll be returning to later in the evening. Sooner or later though, you’ll end up around South Pointe. Make sure to set aside some time to visit South Pointe Park and take the mandatory selfie at the South Pointe Pier. Or, just kick back and whittle away the afternoon by enjoying the sunset from South Pointe. Either way, after dark party goers, should experience a slice of Miami’s nightlife, such as STORY Nightclub. Alternatively, double back to Mango’s for an authentic Miami experience.

Day 2: Take to the water
On your second day in South Beach, you’ll probably find yourself itching to explore beyond the streets and hit the high seas. Miami has some of the world’s best diving, not to mention great opportunities for snorkeling and other water sports. South Beach Divers offers single day snorkeling trips and multi-day charters throughout the year, while Austin’s Dive Center has both gear and information for the avid aquatic adventurer.

The post South Beach in 2 days: what to do first appeared on San Juan Hotel.

Miami Beach boasts some of Florida’s best international cuisine, including a great lineup of Thai restaurants from hole in the wall noodle bars to cutting edge fusion. For a cheap eat, try somewhere like Sriracha House, Siam Palace or Ricky Thai. Meanwhile, Lung Yai Thai Tapas offers a more unique experience, while NaiYaRa’s range of appetizers makes it an excellent place for sharing plates.

Siam Palace Restaurant
Siam Palace has been the go-to local standard for over two decades now, and despite a recent change in management remains as reliable as ever. Fast service, good quality, and generous serving sizes make this old favorite pretty hard to beat, especially in terms of value for money. As for what to try, there’s nothing particularly special on the menu beyond the typical Thai offerings. Do try the traditional Thai coffee though.

NaiYaRa
This Japanese-Thai fusion does great sushi and even better red snapper. There’s a strong seafood focus here, and the glazed salmon is definitely worth a try. Or better yet, come during happy hour for their great cocktails and sides. Bear in mind though that outside happy hour, NaiYaRa is easily one of the pricier options on the list, so be prepared to fork out for a good meal here.

Sushi Siam
Another Japanese-Thai fusion, Sushi Siam is at its best when it’s serving up one of its signature lobster dishes or that incredible spicy beef salad. Despite being a fusion, the Thai dishes certainly have an authentic taste, including packing the chili like they do in Thailand.

Lung Yai Thai Tapas
What happens when you combine Spanish tapas-style dining with Thai food? Little Havana has the answer because of course, it does. Lung Yai Thai Tapas offers some of the best Thai food in town, served in an enjoyable tapas style. It’s a unique, slightly odd but overwhelmingly enjoyable experience.

Sriracha House
This little hipster haunt might not look like much more than your average noodle stand, but Sriracha House really packs a punch where it counts. It’s cheap, fast, tasty and ridiculously filling. No wonder they do a roaring trade practically 24 hours a day, from lunches on-the-go to those late night noodle binges. It’s not quite fancy but does the job.

Ricky Thai Bistro
Like Sriracha House, Ricky Thai Bistro is as unpretentious as it is welcoming. Don’t expect many surprises on the menu, which is about as stock-standard as the joyless furniture. Once the food arrives though, you’ll understand why locals rave about this place. Fresh ingredients and bold flavors make for a memorable experience at a reasonable price.

Sawadee Thai
Not exactly easy to find, this place is tucked away with little visible signage and is easy to miss – something you don’t want to do. Sawadee offers a good range of the usual Thai dishes, with particularly good spring rolls. Many of their dishes to err on the spicy side, making this place particularly worthwhile for any and all chili lovers. They also do delivery.

The post Top Thai Restaurants in Miami Beach first appeared on San Juan Hotel.

Miami might be expensive, but luckily you don’t have to burn money on cover charges and fancy dinners to have a romantic time in South Beach. Don’t believe it? Check out our list of romantic stuff to do around South Beach. The best thing about everything on this list is that you won’t have to pay a dime.

Reggae Sundays at The Wynwood Yard
From 2 pm to midnight every Sunday, The Wynwood Yard puts on a mellow afternoon of reggae beats in their open outdoor area. There’s usually a food truck or two around, or just grab some drinks at the outdoor bar. Either way, entry is as free as the vibes here.

Wynwood Art Walk
If it’s the second Saturday of the month, then you’d better head to the Wynwood Art Walk. Galleries stay open late with music and drinks, and there’s usually a relaxed atmosphere. Most importantly, it’s free!

Viernes Culturales (Cultural Fridays)
There’s never a bad time to visit Little Havana, but nothing beats Viernes culturales (cultural Fridays). On the last Friday of every month, Little Havana lets loose with dancing, cigars and endless games of dominoes. Check out the website for more information.

Free movies and music at the New World Symphony
The New World Symphony regularly makes use of its performance hall’s exterior walls to project classic films and contemporary symphonies. Anyone in the park outside is free to sit back and enjoy the show, so the only thing you’ll need is a picnic blanket. Check out their website for details on upcoming shows.

Matheson Hammock Park
It’s hard to do better than a romantic evening walk at Matheson Hammock Park. This idyllic slice of natural beauty turns into nothing short of a tropical paradise during sunset. Maybe it’s the way the light cuts through the swaying palms, or the sound of the water lapping against the shore; whatever it is, there’s something magical about Matheson.

Under the MacArthur Causeway
Here’s a local secret: on Watson Island, there’s a great little spot under the MacArthur Causeway with amazing views of the Miami skyline. Just take the Jungle Island exit and head down to the water, where you’ll find an area with stunning sunset views.

The Kampong
This pleasant historic garden has one of Miami’s best collections of exotic plants, including more than 50 varieties of mango. It’s a great place to start or end a weekend date and is particularly lively on Sundays.

Institute of Contemporary Art
If you’re groaning at the thought of trudging through some sterile art gallery, then you need to see the new Institute of Contemporary Art. This vibrant museum’s highlight is the 15,000-square-foot outdoor sculpture garden, which is well worth exploring on a sunny afternoon. Best of all, this is one of the few museums in the city that’s completely free to enter.

Bill Baggs State Park
On weekends, Bill Baggs State Park is alive with families and day visitors, but during weekdays this place is almost completely empty. If there’s anything more romantic than a walk along a secluded beach, then maybe it’s the lighthouse at the far end of the park.

The post Free romantic things to do in South Beach first appeared on San Juan Hotel.

GroundUP Music Festival
Now in its third year, GroundUP has already positioned itself as an event worth keeping an eye on. This year the festival’s headline is Snarky Puppy, who’ll be performing their yet-to-be-released next album for the first time. Other big names include Lalah Hathaway, Andrew Bird, David Crosby, and Susana Baca. Tickets start at $85 for single day entries or $225 for a three-day pass.

GroundUP 2019 will take place from February 8 to the 10th. More information can be found here.

Art Wynwood
Works from over 70 local and international galleries will be on display during this year’s Art Wynwood. This is one of Miami’s most prestigious art festivals and will take place over the Presidents’ Day weekend, from February 14 to 18. Find out more here.

Miami International Map Fair
Explore the wonderful world of cartography at the Miami International Map Fair, which will run over February 2-3. Marvel at maps, gawk at globes and breathe in the smell of historic books at this celebration of geographic precision. Over 40 of the world’s most renown map collectors will be in town for the event, with tickets starting at $15 for single day entry. Get all the details here.

Miami Yacht Show
Once you’ve stocked up on maps, plot a course to the Miami Yacht Show between February 14-18. Located on Biscayne Bay between the Venetian and MacArthur Causeways, the show will feature both new and pre-owned luxury yachts, along with accessories and other marine products. They’ll also have displays of super-yachts from some of the world’s top designers. Even if you’re not in the market for a floating display of opulence, the show still makes for a great day out. Find out more here.

Miami International Boat Show
While the Miami Yacht Show is focused exclusively on the finer things in life, the Miami International Boat Show will have all things related to the wide world of boating. Products from over 170 marine technology brands will be on offer this year, including products for powerboats, sail and more. Experts from across the world will also be presenting seminars on boating, ranging from beginner classes to tips for even the most advanced aficionados. Tickets will set you back $25 for the day or $45 for two day passes. The event itself will take place in the Miami Marine Stadium Park & Basin from February 14-18. Get all the details here.

Gay8 Festival
Along with the street party, there’s also fashion shows, street theater and more.
South Beach Wine and Food Festival

The South Beach Wine and Food Festival (SOBEWFF) began in 1997 as a one-day showcase featuring both national and international wines paired with local cuisine. It has since grown into a five-day extravaganza attracting those who seek a culinary adventure from all over the world and a star-studded cast of chefs. Ticket prices depend on the type of events you attend. Thereares no “general admission” type tickets for purchase as each event is a separate occurrence. It is best to map out the events you want to attend before you arrive, so you knowthe exact costs and locations. We strongly recommend you purchase your tickets before you arrive at SOBEWFF. If you prefer, there are ticket packages available for purchase. And don’t worry, your ticket covers all food and drinks available at the event — just bring your appetite.
South Pointe Pier offers everything you could want in a park: beaches, walking paths, beautiful scenery, and so much more. This 17-acre park in Miami Beach is a great place to enjoy, so to help you make the most of your visit there, we have included a brief guide to provide you with an overview of the park.

South Pointe Pier is far more than a relaxing getaway – there is so much to do and see.

There is a 20-foot-wide walkway that lines the park and it is perfect for joggers, bikers, rollerbladers, or anyone taking a leisurely walk. The South Pointe pier juts out into the ocean, so if you make it to the end, it makes for a brilliant view.

When you need a break from the walking, sit back in one of the many comfortable benches throughout the park and take in the views of cruise ships and yachts sailing along the ocean.

Children also have a wealth of activities to partake in. One of the most popular attractions among younger visitors is the ocean-themed water park. Located right near the shaded picnic area, this modern, cutting-edge design features motion-activated water sensors that will drench youngsters when they come in proximity.

The park also features a well-reviewed restaurant called Smith & Wollensky. The restaurant serves everything from steak to seafood. While indoor seating is offered, it is best to opt for the outdoor seating to capitalize on the spectacular views.

Once you conclude your day at South Pointe Pier, there is still a wealth of activities and places nearby. If you’re looking for more dining options try Café Portofino for dinner or Rosella’s Kitchen, which is a few blocks north, for lunch. For cocktails, head to Kava Bar and Nikki Beach is a fun nightclub that is also right up the street.

Whether you are in South Beach for a day or a week, make sure South Pointe Pier is one of the attractions you see.

The post A Guide to South Pointe Pier first appeared on San Juan Hotel.

Miami is undoubtedly a culinary landmark in the United States. Over the past several years, it has further diversified the types of cuisines offered, making it even more appealing to food connoisseurs. One of its most impressive new additions has been Peruvian Cuisine. From signature dishes like ceviche and Lomo saltado, Peruvian staples are a becoming a must-try in Miami. Below we have compiled our top five recommendations to help you satisfy your cravings during your stay.

Cvi.Che 105
For over a decade, this spot has been producing some of Miami’s best ceviche. With an abundance of awards and a skilled chef like Juan Chipoco, it’s no wonder guests are in love with the Peruvian classics offered at this fine establishment.

La Mar By Gaston Acurio
The acclaimed Peruvian chef, Gaston Acurio, owns multiple restaurants from Lima to Caracas to Miami and San Francisco, as well as a culinary institute in his homeland of Peru. This gorgeous waterfront restaurant, however, stands alone. It is well known for its outstanding Peruvian and fusion dishes and for its high-class atmosphere.

Mr. and Mrs. Bun
This establishment proves that you can get a high-quality meal west of the turnpike. Although deceptively simple from its exterior, this cafe is amazing for its modern Peruvian cuisine — which is all served on a bun. Try the aji de gallina bites for starters then go to one of their bun-wiches such as the pollo chi jau kay con nabo encurtido.

Pisco and Nazca
Upon arriving, you will surely notice the stylish design, which was influenced by the original Nazca lines in Peru. Chef Miguel, a Peruvian himself, promises to whip up something delightfully tasty in the kitchen.

Dr. Limon
If you are looking for something unique, go no further than Dr. Limon. At this hospital-themed eatery, you will find the cure for what ails you in the form of fresh ceviche and other delectable treats.
